Who We Serve

Rhode Island MENTOR serves children and families at-risk, who are involved with the Department of Children Youth and Families, and adults with Developmental Disabilities.

Adults with Developmental Disabilities. Rhode Island MENTOR’s Shared Living Program supports individuals with Developmental Disabilities in small group homes within each individual’s local community. This residential program fosters greater independence and community involvement while meeting the unique and often complex needs of each individual served.

Children and Families at-Risk. We believe that children at-risk are best served in homes within their communities as they work towards transitioning to  safe, permanent living environments. Our Mentor model has helped thousands of children and adolescents gain stability, comfort and confidence through healthy relationships with responsible, caring adults.

The key to all of our successful programming is the relationship that forms between the Mentor and the individual in his or her home – a relationship of advocacy, support, caring, and supervision.  Staff from Rhode Island MENTOR support and strengthen this relationship through comprehensive services including screening, matching, skill development and program oversight.  Our placements emphasize personal choice and we nurture every relationship to create a “good match” – aligning the needs, preferences, and interests of our clients and Mentors.
